Potholing or non destructive digging, is a far safer method of excavation
than using mechanical devices such as
tractor mounted excavators or post hole borers.
Potholing involves the use of high pressure water or compressed air to break
up the ground, which is then removed
by a powerful vacuum unit just like the vacuum unit in your home only much
bigger.
The dirt is much larger and not the kind you'd like to see on your carpet.
The water or air is used at a pressure and volume that is highly unlikely
to cause damage to buried utilities like Telstra cables,
Gas pipes, Water Pipes, Sewer and Storm Water pipes etc.
It is an ideal method for exposing critical utilities after they have been
electronically located to confirm identity, size, number
of services and depth.
Planning for new construction of underground infrastructure, building footings
or piling can be carried out with confidence
using information gained from non destructive digging.
